About Author : Alexandre Dumas was born in 1802 in a small town called Villers Cotterets. When he was just five years old, he realized that he was not like other boys in the town. He was different from them, as he was half black and half white.
He did not take any interest in his education. He spent most of his time in hunting and doing other outdoor activities. At the age of sixteen, he went to see the first play of his life Hamlet by Shakespeare. From then onwards, his greatest wish was to become a playwright. He wanted to go to Paris to fulfill his wish.
He took up the job of a clerk. In his free time, he started writing short plays and travel books. He got some success. Encouraged by his success at plays, he wrote his first historical novel. He completed it in 1844. It was a great success and he became rich and famous. In some novels, his characters were taken from French history they existed in the French history at one time or the other. The events were also real. In some novels, his characters were imaginative. He wove interesting and amusing stories around these characters.
The Three Musketeers, is one of his most famous novels. The Count of Monte Cristo and the Man in the Iron Mask, are the most famous of all his novels.
Alexandre Dumas was a great writer He has written more than six hundred books. He earned a lot of money from his books. However, he did not keep the money to himself. He spent the money on building magnificent buildings and entertaining great artists of Paris. He also bought theatres. When he died in 1870, he had no money left in his account
